Principal’s Message
Thank you for your interest in Raoul Wallenberg International School in Palma.
As Founding Principal I feel much pride in leading such a new, prestigious institution. Shaping young, impressionable minds is one of life’s biggest challenges. At RWIS, we aim to empower our students to grow as individuals with strong minds having an international perspective, preparing them to compete and make a mark in the global village- the world has become today.
At RWIS, our curriculum is based on the National Curriculum for England and Wales, adapted to include the requirements of education in Mallorca and to meet the needs of our students. The main language of instruction will be English. The curriculum is designed to provide not only academic knowledge and information but also to develop the skills that will help our students to achieve success in the future. Our students will aspire to become lifelong learners, developing independence and a love for learning that will enhance their personal lives and careers in the future.
RWIS in Palma is a co-ed school from KG 1 (year 5) to A Level (year 18). Students of all nationalities and backgrounds will study at RWIS as we have included in our curriculum Spanish, Catalan and aspects of local history and culture. Education in the 21st century is not just about classroom learning and memorizing facts. Education in its fullest sense is active, not passive. It encompasses the development of skills such as the abilities to think more deeply, to analyse, to evaluate, to explain, to summarize, to synthesize and be able to create. It comes from a range of experiences both within the classroom and outside.
At RWIS, our students not only have excellent opportunities to study the necessary range of subjects in the classroom but also to participate in enrichment activities which enhance their all-round education. They are encouraged to have self-confidence, curiosity and ambition, to share ideas, to discuss, to ask and to answer questions, to be inquisitive and to be creative. They are encouraged to develop the personal qualities of humility, compassion and respect. Learning is a journey, one that is full of surprises, challenges and enjoyment. It is a journey that I am sure every student will find exciting, fulfilling and memorable at RWIS. I hope that as you peruse through the contents of this website, you will get a sense of rich flavour of life at our school. I encourage you to visit our beautiful historic school in La Vileta
and see that we are a school committed to children. We look forward to partnering with you.
